Biography

Breaking into the industry in 1998, Xiaohan has since established her name with her lyrics that focuses on the inner-most feelings of modern city dwellers, especially those of women.

Since 2000 when she earned a nomination spot in the Singapore Hit Awards with ‘你抽的煙’, Xiaohan has been a consistent nominee at the yearly affair. She became the first female to be crowned the Best Local Lyricist at the Singapore Hit Awards 2002 with ‘紙飛機’, after the title was dominated by various talented Singapore male lyricists from the establishment of the awards in 1994. Xiaohan reclaimed the title again in 2004, with ‘無底洞’, the song that propelled her lyricist career to greater heights. She held on to the title in 2007 and 2008 with ‘雨天’ and ‘達爾文’ respectively.

Xiaohan was nominated for the Best Lyricist in the 19th Golden Melody Award with ‘達爾文I’, her first nomination for this prestigious award in 2008. (The award was won by Fang Wen Shan with his lyrics for ‘青花瓷’.)

From the commercial pop music arena, Xiaohan extended her scope to writing lyrics for musicals. She was also involved in the Speak Mandarin Campaign 2006 and a fund-raising album “Hands United” for the 2004 Tsunami victims.

Currently the Co-director of Funkie Monkies Productions with Eric Ng, Xiaohan is also a key personnel in the publishing arm of the indie label and a lecturer at Funkie Monkies School of Pop, which aims to groom and introduce more talents into the music industry. Occasionally, she writes columns for various magazines and conducts music composing seminars with Eric.

With the collaboration of Funkie Monkies Productions with Royston Tan, Xiaohan participated in the making of the soundtracks for Royston Tan's blockbusters, "881" and "12蓮花"

In 2008 and 2009, Xiaohan had the honour of penning the mandarin version of the Singapore National Day theme song, titled ‘晴空萬里’ performed by Singapore song bird, 蔡淳佳 and ‘就在這裡’ by 《Project SuperStar》winner 陳偉聯.

Performed by Funkie Monkies artistes and various Y.E.S 93.3FM DJs, ‘你還有個我’ was specially written by Eric and Xiaohan for the Down Syndrome Association (DSA). Royalties from the sales of this particular song, found in the compilation album with the same title, will be donated to DSA.

Her first book, <<眼淚是膠囊>> , is available in Singapore from 7 January 2011.
